Caroline County Health Department provides routine pre-natal care in consultation with Medical Shore Women’s Health (formerly, Chesapeake OB). Care Provided by women’s health nurse practitioners and registered nurses
Services Include:
Preconception counseling, including the Folic Acid recommendation
Comprehensive Obstetrical Exams
Prenatal lab tests, including pap smears and cervical cultures
Alfa Fetal Protein testing for neural tube defects
Screening for gestational diabetes
One to one prenatal education: includes fetal growth and development, pre-term labor warning signs, common discomforts of pregnancy, labor and delivery preparation, breast feeding, infant safety, etc.
Nutritional counseling
Breast feeding information and referral
Addictions counseling (includes "quit kit" for smoking Moms)
Healthy Start home visits
Application for Medical Assistance, MCHP
WIC referral
Adolescent Case Management of pregnant teens
Postpartum exam and contraception
