Diagnostic and Advisory Services for Children

A partnership between Kennedy Krieger Institute and Caroline County Health Department

 

Children’s Medical Services of the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene helps support Caroline County Diagnostic and Advisory Clinic for Children

 

The clinic serves children with multiple or complex developmental and behavioral problems, children with disabling medical conditions that require care management, and children who are not functioning at levels appropriate to their potential, or whose potential is unclear

 

Children who might need evaluation are:

Children discharged from Neonatal Intensive Care Units

Children who have difficulty communicating

Children with school problems or suspected learning disabilities

Children who cannot concentrate or whose activity level is abnormal

Children with unusual physical findings (abnormal appearance or growth patterns; motor deficits;

poor coordination; or gait disturbances

Children who are losing skills

Children with suspected mental slowness

Young children with severe behavior problems

Children with a known handicapping condition requiring further assessment, follow-up, or coordination of management

 

Services Include:

·          Interview with Community Health Nurse

·          Testing and examination of child by Developmental Pediatrician

·          Recommendations for care management

·          Records released by written consent

 

Services from Kennedy Krieger Institute will be billed to:

·          Private Insurance with referral

·          Medical Assistance/Health Choice

·          Grant funds for uninsured

 

Referrals are made by  health professionals, schools, educators, including Child Find and Infant and Toddler personnel,

day care centers, or by the family.
