Health Department to Host Community Baby Shower

The Caroline County Health Department, in partnership with Babies Born Healthy and the Maryland Children’s Health Program will host a community baby shower on Saturday, September 21, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Federalsburg. The event will provide new and expectant mothers in Caroline County resources and expert advice, as well as giveaways of baby essentials.

“Welcoming a new baby into the world can be an overwhelming experience,” shared Holly Trice, Director of Nursing at the Health Department. “Our community baby shower offers new moms a chance to gather essential information in a friendly, supportive setting. We want them to leave feeling more prepared for their parenting journey and knowing where to turn for additional help if they need it.”

To attend the event, you must be pregnant or have a child under the age of two and must be a Caroline County resident. Proof of residency will be required for entry. The baby shower will be held at the Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company hall, locates at 208 University Avenue, Federalsburg. Services and assistance will be available in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole.

At the baby shower, attendees will gain valuable knowledge on maintaining a healthy pregnancy, ensuring safe sleep practices, and receiving support for breastfeeding. They will also learn how to promote their child’s development and learning. The event will include demonstrations of infant and child CPR. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to receive a range of free giveaways, which may include pack and plays, car seats, infant seat/stroller combos, infant swings, portable cribs, breastfeeding pumps, diaper bags, educational toys, and kits for bath time, sleep time, bottle feeding, breastfeeding, and playtime.

Additional support for the community baby shower is being provided by Mid-Shore WIC and the Caroline County Judy Centers. If you have questions about the event, please contact Sherry Lusk at (410) 479-8187 or sherry.lusk@maryland.gov
