The federal government shutdown, which began on October 1, may soon impact Maryland families who rely on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
The Maryland Department of Human Services (DHS) has informed us that SNAP benefits will not be issued beginning November 1 if the shutdown continues through the end of this month. Benefits already distributed for October will not be affected.
What You Need to Know
- SNAP benefits will continue through October 31.
- If the shutdown is not resolved, no new SNAP deposits will be made to EBT cards starting November 1.
- Cash benefits (Temporary Cash Assistance and Temporary Disability Assistance Program) will still be issued in November.
- Medical Assistance Programs are not immediately affected at this time.
- DHS will continue to process new SNAP applications, and you are encouraged to keep your information up to date and apply online at MarylandBenefits.gov.
