Additional COVID-19 Vaccine Recommended this Spring

On February 28, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a new COVID-19 vaccine recommendation. Older adults and those with compromised immune systems should get an additional shot this spring.

The recommendation was made because older adults and those with already compromised immune systems continue to be the groups most likely to become severely ill due to COVID-19.

Individuals ages 65 and older should wait at least four months following their last dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Those with conditions that compromise their immune systems can receive the additional dose two months after their last dose. You can get any kind of COVID-19 vaccine, regardless of what your previous shot was.

The Caroline County Health Department will offer Moderna COVID-19 vaccinations by appointment on Tuesdays from March 12 to April 9, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. To be eligible, you must be age 65 or older, be uninsured, or underinsured (have health insurance that does not cover COVID-19 vaccination). To make an appointment, call (410) 479-8000.

If you aren’t sure if you should get a spring COVID-19 vaccination, please contact your primary care provider to discuss your health history and their recommendation.
