Well Construction Permits/Inspections

Well permits are issued to well drillers licensed in Maryland.

Homeowners: Be aware that their well (whether for new home, or replacement well) must be thirty feet from future construction, such as a deck, pool or shed. We recommend homeowners keep that in mind when selecting a well location.

Water Testing: Please see below the link and attachments to having your water tested.

 Well Drillers

Well drillers are asked to submit Caroline County Form: Page 2 with the state application (green form) with appropriate fee.

Test wells must be abandoned and the abandonment report is to be sent to this office, from the well driller.

Farm wells must have a current water appropriate permit that allows for the correct number of wells on the property.

For Example: if a water appropriation permit is for 4 farm wells and the property has 3 farm wells; then one more farm well permit can be processed.  If two farms wells submitted, it is the owner's responsibility to update their water appropriation permit to reflect the correct number of farm wells.  The total on the water appropriation permit should be the number of existing farm wells plus the number of farm wells being proposed.

Water appropriation permits are processed through Maryland Department of Environment.

They can be reached at 1-800-633-6101 or 410-537-3702.  Fax number is 410-537-3157.
